One reader's opinion..and I think he has it right!

I can add to this discussion based upon my unique position of observation which is unavailable to those who do not fly airplanes .... I've spent many thousands of hours earning a living by flying in the skies of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and eastern Alberta.

These are, by British comparison, such large land masses as to be inconceivable. Further, the population density is low .... Manitoba for example contains approximately 1.2 million people. Except for small pockets of persons in the northern communities, virtually all of them live within 150 miles of the US border, in the south of the province.

The impact of the oil sands development, from the position of an observer restricted to the ground, presents a sprawling project extending further than the eye can see, and appears to be so large, the brain of a mere mortal cannot comprehend its scope.

After a cursory visitor's tour, it is no wonder the Oil Sands Project has become fodder for environmentalists seeking a place to stage a "decisive battle" in their guerrilla warfare fight for hearts and minds in their campaign to put forth their agenda. .... not to mention control of billions of tax and donation dollars.

From my perspective as an Airline Transport Licenced Pilot who has looked down at that exact landscape for decades, it is but a pin-prick in the total area of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta boreal forests.

That pin-prick in the skin of the earth provides tens of thousands of jobs, wealth for individuals to prosper, and innumerable conveniences of life for all Canadians and ... dare I say it ... Americans too. The latter is sufficient for a small but highly vocal segment of my fellow mis-guided Canadians to find the project abhorrent, and call for its immediate shutdown using any tactic possible to make it so.

As the expression goes, "You've got to break an egg to make an omelet." In this case, the hen-house remains full to overflowing with eggs.....enough to make omelets for us all for many decades. The Alberta Oil Sands is said to rival the oil fields of Saudi Arabia, and can contribute to North American energy self sufficiency, or at least massively decrease our dependence on potentially unstable source oil from foreign countries with questionable governments.

Oh, but what about impact on the environment?

It is exceptionally unlikely you will ever witness the effects of even a moderate forest fire .... a smoke plume 5 miles in diameter with tons and tons of ejecta rising to altitudes exceeding 5 miles, capping out ... and looking for all the world like an atomic bomb had been dropped.

Some of these fires burn for weeks in areas where they are not fought due to lack of population. One of these fires likely equals the output of solids from the Oil Sands.....and there are over 500 fires in an average year in one Province alone.

We never hear any mention of the effect of forest fires do we?

Despite being able to stand at a podium, and project the appearance of an altruistic messenger out to save mankind from making itself extinct, Al Gore is little more than a flim-flam artist, the likes of which can only be equaled in Hollywood productions like The Music Man, Elmer Gantry, or The Rainmaker.

After a lifetime in politics, he does have a well-honed ability to put on a highly animated performance of what appears to be genuine shock and dismay should a reporter ever manage to penetrate the protective cordon of fanatical believers, and ask a question regarding his various financial holdings, or ... heaven forbid, challenge the veracity of the information he is presenting.

Yes, I am a "denier" in the concept of man-made Global Warming..... and I fail to be affected by the histrionics of extremists who attempt scare tactics with phrases of "We have only 2 weeks to save the earth" and similar over-reactionary drivel that has become a new religion.

ClimateGate Backlash from the U.K

Climategate: the Conservative backlash begins

Conservative leader David Cameron has issued a statement reiterating his party’s commitment to “tackling carbon emissions” to deal with the “real danger of climate change” and describing the Copenhagen summit as of “historic importance.” (Hat Tip: my splendid new friend Plato Says)
And the party faithful don’t like Cameron’s Copenhagen Kool-Aid Consumption one tiny bit.
Here’s what Cameron has to say on the Tory party’s Blue Blog:
In nine days time, representatives from 192 countries will meet in Copenhagen for the UN Conference on climate change. This summit is of historic importance. It is an opportunity for the world to take bold action to deal with the real danger of climate change.
So this week, ahead of the summit, members of my Shadow Cabinet have given a series of speeches setting out plans to help protect the global environment. Each one of these speeches sets out specific steps which need to be taken if we are going to reduce our carbon emissions.
And here are some of the 200 plus, almost unanimously negative comments from disgusted (and soon-to-be-former-) Tory voters so far:
Please do not support the global warming quacks in my name. They are a bunch of frauds and thieves.
When are you going to accept that Climate Change is not man made? All the unmassaged facts indicate this.
You and all the other “green brigade” go swaning off to these conferences spreading an enormous carbon footprint for what? You should not rely on my vote in the coming election unless you are honest.
How intelligent men can really believe all this drivel beats me..By the way are we or the EU responsible for capping all the VOLCANOES scattered around the world???? Get a life people.
When will the Conservative Party comment on what is now called ‘ClimateGate’ ? The science behind this whole issue is looking more and more like a massive scam!
How big is the entourage that is going with David and I bet the carbon footprint made on this one trip is more than I make in twenty years.? Why dont they just phone each other or use a network….is it because they enjoy the pomp and ego boost? What a waste of money, david you should be ashamed!
not interested in green stuff more interested in getting rid of all the rules and regs labour brought in licences fines house . sort that and you may get votes otherwise forget it
Dear Mr Blair (sorry, Cameron)
Why don’t you listen to the actual SCIENTISTS? And not the scaremongerors? Anyone who has even a vague knowledge of science will understand that, in medieval times, the world was a lot hotter than it is now: granted, colder winters, but they had much hotter summers. This is part of the earth’s cycle: read a bit more, think, and don’t believe everyone – take a balanced view. Global warming/cooling is part of the earth’s physicality. Let us not forget that man, as we know him, on a 24-hour clock appeared about 2 minutes before midnight! The earth’s warming/cooling has been going on long before we were around.
Britain’s been sold to the Belgiums and we are supposed to be worried about climate change? We want our own elected government to govern our country
I also am a scientist and agree with the views expressed above that climate change linked to man made CO2 is at best “not proven” and at worst is a fable of equal staus to the Emperor’s New Clothes. David could provide real leadership by not supporting the green inquisition and becoming the man that led us out of this nonsense. The climate change lobby is attractive because it appeals to a concept of original sin (man polluting the planet an bringing about his own downfall) and fear of dependence on oil (which will one day, but not soon, run ou)t. The long term answer to go with sensible energy strategy is of course fewer people. We should be aiming to get the UK population back to 50 million in the next 30 years and maybe less after that.
Conservatives should not fall for the man induced climate change confidence trick. Most oif its remedies are against conservative instincts (more taxes, state interference etc.
As a lowly ex meteorologist I have in my retirement looked at global temperatures:-
Easy enough to do. Doesn’t require much effort at all and I notice It’s been gettting colder for the past decade.
The terminology has changed too – from ‘Man made global warming’ to ‘global warming’ and now ‘climate change’ Whereas I thought that I was the only one (not in receipt of a large research grant) who thought that the Emperor was not wearing any clothes I now suspect that he is now putting on his underwear.
That’s the bad news, Dave. But the good news is you have the support of one Ross J Warren who argues:
Perhaps we might consider making climate change denial a criminal matter
Mm. He sounds just the kind of sensible, reasonable fellow you want onside.

Sure it wasn't a terrorist attack...

Is it me, or is there a pattern forming here?

The massacre at Fort Hood and Muslim soldiers with attitude

By Michelle Malkin • November 6, 2009 12:01 AM

Scroll for updates…7:39am Eastern press conference…Ft. Hood officials disclose that the murder victims included 12 soldiers and 1 civilian…first responder heroine who shot Hasan is in stable condition…witnesses still being interviewed “all through the night”…they confirm that Hasan was wearing his uniform…

Terry Lee, a retired Army colonel who knew Hasan, told Fox News about a story he heard secondhand. He said a fellow colleague had told him that Hasan had made “outlandish comments” about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and US involvement in them and that “Muslims had a right to rise up and attack Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

“[He] made comments about how we shouldn’t be over there – you need to lock it up, Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor,” Lee added.

But the suspect’s cousin, Nader Hasan, gave Fox News a different picture. He said his cousin had never deployed but was affected by the war and had been concerned about his impending deployment.

“He would tell us how he would hear things, horrific things, things from war probably affecting him psychologically,” Nader Hasan said.

His name appears on radical Internet postings. A fellow officer says he fought his deployment to Iraq and argued with soldiers who supported U.S. wars. He required counseling as a medical student because of problems with patients.

There are many unknowns about Nidal Malik Hasan, the man authorities say is responsible for the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base. Most of all, his motive. But details of his life and mindset, emerging from official sources and personal acquaintances, are troubling.

“Troubling.” And familiar.

At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.

There was a grenade thrown amongs a group of American soldiers. One of the soldiers, feeling that it was to late for everyone to flee jumped on the grave with the intention of saving his comrades. Indeed he saved them. He inentionally took his life (suicide) for a noble cause i.e. saving the lives of his soldier. To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause. Scholars have paralled this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers. If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory. Their intention is not to die because of some despair. The same can be said for the Kamikazees in Japan. They died (via crashing their planes into ships) to kill the enemies for the homeland. You can call them crazy i you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam. So the scholars main point is that “IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOUR INTENTION IS THE MAIN ISSUE” and Allah (SWT) knows best.

Those of you with long memories will remember all those who came before Hasan. Here is my column from March 2003 on Muslim soldiers with attitude:

gt. Asan Akbar, a Muslim American soldier with the 326th Engineer Battalion, had an “attitude problem.”

According to his superiors and acquaintances, Akbar’s attitude was bitterly anti-American and staunchly pro-Muslim. So how did this devout follower of the so-called Religion of Peace work out his attitudinal problems last weekend?

By lobbing hand grenades and aiming his M-4 automatic rifle into three tents filled with sleeping commanding officers at the 101st Airborne Division’s 1st Brigade operations center in Kuwait.

Akbar is the lone suspect being detained in the despicable attack, which left more than a dozen wounded and one dead. Surviving soldiers say Akbar, found cowering in a bunker with shrapnel injuries, was overheard ranting after the assault: “You guys are coming into our countries, and you’re going to rape our women and kill our children.”

“Our”? At least there’s no doubt about where this Religion of Peace practitioner’s true loyalties lie.

Naturally, apologists for Islam-gone-awry are hard at work dismissing this traitorous act of murder as an “isolated, individual act and not an expression of faith.” But such sentiments are willfully blind and recklessly p.c.

Sgt. Akbar is not the only MSWA — Muslim soldier with attitude — suspected of infiltrating our military, endangering our troops and undermining national security:

– Ali A. Mohamed. Mohamed, a major in the Egyptian army, immigrated to the U.S. in 1986 and joined the U.S. Army while a resident alien. This despite being on a State Department terrorist watch list before securing his visa. An avowed Islamist, he taught classes on Muslim culture to U.S. Special Forces at Fort Bragg, N.C., and obtained classified military documents. He was granted U.S. citizenship over the objections of the CIA.

A former classmate, Jason T. Fogg, recalled that Mohamed was openly critical of the American military. “To be in the U.S. military and have so much hate toward the U.S. was odd. He never referred to America as his country.”

Soon after he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1989, Mohamed hooked up with Osama bin Laden as an escort, trainer, bagman and messenger. Mohamed used his U.S. passport to conduct surveillance at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi; he later pled guilty to conspiring with bin Laden to “attack any Western target in the Middle East” and admitted his role in the 1998 African embassy bombings that killed more than 200 people, including a dozen Americans.

Ain’t multiculturalism grand?

– Semi Osman. An ethnic Lebanese born in Sierra Leone and a Seattle-based Muslim cleric, Osman served in a naval reserve fueling unit based in Tacoma, Wash. He had access to fuel trucks similar to the type used by al Qaeda in the 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers, which killed 19 U.S. airmen and wounded nearly 400 other Americans.

Osman was arrested last May as part of a federal investigation into the establishment of a terrorist training camp in Bly, Oregon. Osman recently pleaded guilty to a weapons violation, and the feds dropped immigration charges against him in exchange for his testimony.

Ain’t open borders grand?

– John Muhammad. The accused Beltway sniper and Muslim convert was a member of the Army’s 84th Engineering Company. In an eerie parallel to the Akbar case, Muhammad is suspected of throwing a thermite grenade into a tent housing 16 of his fellow soldiers as they slept before the ground-attack phase of Gulf War I in 1991. Muhammad’s superior, Sgt. Kip Berentson, told both Newsweek and The Seattle Times that he immediately suspected Muhammad, who was “trouble from day one.”

Curiously, Muhammad was admitted to the Army despite being earlier court-martialed for willfully disobeying orders, striking another noncommissioned officer, wrongfully taking property, and being absent without leave while serving in the Louisiana National Guard.

Although Muhammad was led away in handcuffs and transferred to another company pending charges for the grenade attack, an indictment never materialized. Muhammad was honorably discharged from the Army in 1994. Eight years later, he was arrested in the 21-day Beltway shooting spree that left 10 dead and three wounded.

Ain’t tolerance grand?

– Jeffrey Leon Battle. A former Army reservist, Battle was indicted in October 2002 for conspiring to levy war against the United States and “enlisting in the Reserves to receive military training to use against America.” According to the Justice Department, he planned to wage war against American soldiers in Afghanistan.

Ain’t diversity grand?

“It’s bad enough we have to worry about enemy forces, but now we have to worry about our own guys,” Spc. Autumn Simmer told the Los Angeles Times this week after the assault on the 101st Airborne. The Islamist infiltration of our troops is scandalous. Not one more American, soldier or civilian, must be sacrificed at the altar of multiculturalism, diversity, open borders, and tolerance of the murderous “attitude” of Jihad.

FYI: Convicted Beltway sniper John Muhammad is scheduled to beexecuted next week. No doubt the families of the Muslim sniper victims are re-living the horror tonight.

FYI: Muslim US soldier Hasan Abujihaad was convicted last year on espionage and material terrorism support charges
after serving aboard the USS Benfold and sharing classified info with al Qaeda financiers, including movements of US ships just six months after al Qaeda operatives had killed 17 Americans aboard the USS Cole in the port of Yemen.

On Thursday, 11 soldiers and civilian police at Fort Hood were slaughtered execution-style at close range and over 30 others wounded, allegedly by a U.S. Army Major Malik Nadal Hasan. The President immediately addressed the nation concerning this horrific event.

However, his expression of grief was very odd. He spent the first two minutes of the four-and-a-half minute address in a light-hearted discussion of his earlier “Tribal Nations Conference” on Native American rights, including a “shout out” recognition of a conference attendee.

When he finally got around to the purpose for his public appearance, he gave an uninspired and rambling dissertation on the tragedy. Even then, he could not keep the topic focused on sympathy for the pain of others:

I want all of you to know that as Commander in Chief, that there’s no greater honor, but no greater responsibility for me (emphasis his) than to make sure that the extraordinary men and women in uniform are properly cared for…

Poor soul, it’s so saddening to know how this tragedy affects him. Listening to this address provides some insight into Obama’s character and how he ranks his priorities.

[UPDATE 11-5-09 11:17 p.m.: The L.A. Times has whisked the original version of its story down the memory hole. Never fear: I knew this was coming and saved a copy. See UPDATE x4 below. -- P]

Whenever there is breaking news, it’s good to keep a few things in mind:

  • Don’t jump to conclusions.
  • Don’t be afraid to discuss relevant topics even if they seem politically incorrect.
  • Always follow Allahpundit.

With these caveats in mind, it’s interesting to compare the coverage of the Fort Hood shootings by Allahpundit to the coverage by the L.A. Times. We know that the shooter has been identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan, who was a psychiatrist at Fort Hood. From there, coverage differs wildly.

Perusing Allahpundit’s coverage, which is excellent and still developing, we learn the following:

  • The Austin-American Statesman reported that, according to Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Hasan “was upset about being deployed to Iraq.” (This had not happened yet but was upcoming.)
  • There is a report that the shooter was shouting something in Arabic at the time of the shooting.
  • The cousin said that Hasan had always been Muslim, disputing reports that Hasan was a Muslim convert. The cousin also confirmed that Hasan had requested not to be deployed overseas to the war. He said that being deployed was “his worst nightmare.” According to the cousin, Hasan was desperately trying to avoid being deployed.

  • Shepard Smith also had an interview with a retired colonel who worked with Hasan at the Fort Hood psyche ward.
  • The colonel heard Hasan say that “maybe the Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor” in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also heard Hasan comment that he was “almost sort of happy” about a shooting at a Little Rock recruitment center.

The colonel confirms that Hasan was about to be deployed but did not say whether it was to be to Iraq or Afghanistan.

  • As of the publication of this post, the latest is that Hasan may have written Internet posts approving of suicide bombings:

Federal law enforcement officials say the suspected Fort Hood, Texas, shooter had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats.

The officials say the postings appeared to have been made by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was killed during the shooting incident that left least 11 others dead and 31 wounded. The officials say they are still trying to confirm that he was the author.

Again, remember the warning about jumping to conclusions. This is not confirmed. But it is interesting.

Given the above facts, would you be surprised to learn that as of the time of this post, the L.A. Times story on the shooting has no mention of the shooter’s religion, his alleged rants against U.S. involvement in Iraq, his alleged approval of suicide bombings, or the allegations that he was shouting something in Arabic as he shot?

Now, keep in mind my first injunction above. This is a breaking story, and we don’t know for sure what his motivations were. Don’t jump to conclusions. However, I do note that the L.A. Times saw fit to spend a couple of paragraphs talking about suicides at Army bases due to deployments to the war:

Base personnel have accounted for more suicides than any other Army post since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, with 75 tallied through July of this year. Nine of those suicides occurred in 2009, counting two in overseas war zones.

Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli, the Army’s deputy chief of staff, has been leading an effort to reduce the number of Army suicides, which has climbed sharply this year, possibly as a result from long and repeated deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Somehow, this is relevant, even though Hasan was never deployed to the war, even once. But his religion? His rants against the war? His desperate attempts to avoid deployment? His alleged shouting in Arabic? His alleged approval of suicide bombings? There is not one word about any of that.

Regardless of what Hasan’s motivation turns out to be, this information is relevant to the overall assessment. It could turn out that Hasan’s motivations have nothing to do with the war or Islam. Based on what I’m reading tonight, that appears unlikely . . . but I’m not jumping to any conclusions.

But the fact that we don’t know his motivations yet with crystal clarity is no excuse for burying the facts I have just related to you. As we try to figure out what’s going on, those facts matter. If you read Hot Air (or this site) you’re learning those facts. If you read the L.A. Times, they are being hidden from you.

And it’s quite clear why: political correctness. The L.A. Times will bury this as long as they can — probably until they’re embarrassed into revealing it due to its clear relevance. They will applaud themselves for being sober and cautious — something they would never do if the shooter were an aficionado of Rush Limbaugh instead of Allah and anti-American rants.

And so, a large news organization pats itself on the back for its correct beliefs — as its readers have no idea what’s going on.

Die, Big Media. Die already.

UPDATE: The latest word is that Hasan is still alive. What did I say about jumping to conclusions? Just because 500,000 news organizations already reported that he was dead, that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true.

Take a deep breath and wait for the facts. And for God’s sake, be willing to discuss all the facts.

UPDATE x2: Hasan’s alleged comment:

Honestly, how long can the L.A. Times bury its head in the sand?

UPDATE x3: Much more on Hasan’s devout Muslim faith here. And L.A. Times readers are still in the dark . . .

UPDATE x4: The paper has now whisked the original version of the story down the memory hole, and replaced it with a new one at the same Web address. I knew they would do this, as they have a history of doing it. So I copied the whole text of the story as it appeared when I first did the post. Read that here. Then I copied a changed version at 6:46 p.m., after it was known that Hasan was alive. That version also suppressed any mention of the items mentioned in this post. Read that version here.

I do not have words for this..it's an outrage.

Is it any wonder that people are getting just a little ticked off with the IN-justice system in this country?

The following article further supports a statement I made in an earlier posting regarding the VICTIM of a crime being charged by the police for taking action to foil that crime.

Here is the link:

In the event that the link becomes inactive, I'll post the entire article here.

Support group backs up T.O. shopkeeper over charges

Updated: Fri Jun. 05 2009 6:23:40 PM

ctvtoronto.ca

A Toronto grocery store owner facing charges for arresting an alleged shoplifter is getting some backup from a newly-formed victim's rights group.

David Chen recently got into trouble after an alleged shoplifter stole a tray of plants from the outside of his Dundas Street West store, the Lucky Moose Food Mart, in Chinatown.

The 35-year-old shop owner and two of his employees chased down the alleged shoplifter, grabbed him, tied him up and placed him in a van until police arrived.

But when the police arrived, they charged Chen with assault and kidnapping, claiming he used excessive force during the arrest. (They also charged the shoplifter.)

On Friday, Chen told reporters gathered at a news conference that it is unfair that this is happening to him and his family.

The newly-formed Victim's Rights Action Committee is outraged about the incident and has taken up the case on Chen's behalf.

Committee representative Ricky Chan said the charges against Chen are "sending the wrong message."

"It's, to some degree, a miscarriage of the justice system," Chan told reporters on Friday. "I hope someone will right the wrong and correct the situation."

The committee is now starting an online petition that they will use to try to get the charges dropped against Chen and they hope to collect 50,000 signatures of support.

They also plan to lobby for changes to the criminal code, so that shop owners will not be punished for stopping shoplifters.

At present, Chen said he is hesitant to chase after any subsequent shoplifters for fear that he violates his bail conditions.

He will be in court June 29.

With a report from CTV Toronto's Jim Junkin

And now I feel an urge to speak up about this.

Just who do these Gestapo agents think they are working for? Are they not aware that there are provisions in the Criminal Code of Canada for making a thing called a "Citizen's arrest"? Check out section 494(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Time and time again I read and hear about an honest fellow Canadian being harrassed by police for the heinous crime of effectively defending what is rightfully theirs. Since when did this become a crime? Is it any wonder why more and more people these days are choosing to take matters into their own hands?

Rather than congratulating Mr. Chen for successfully apprehending the criminal, they charge him! This is absolutely outrageous!! Had they been doing their jobs instead of cruising the local Tim Hortons, they could have stopped the shoplifter themselves.

"Whatever you do, cop, don't let your job get in the way of your doughnuts and your large double double".

This absolutely reinforces my belief that it IS ILLEGAL to effectively defend yourself, your family, your home and your livelihood in Canada.

However, I am NOT saying that you should not take action in the event that you DO find yourself defending one of things I listed above. Of course you should. You have to. The cops won't do it for you. They're likely not even in the neighbourhood and by the time they DO show up, the perpetrators are long gone. Along with your TV, computer and Ipod. Nice.

Hey cops, do you know what crime PREVENTION really is? It is a task that takes far less time than crime SOLVING.

I'm just so sick and tired and fed up with the REAL victims being charged by the police for standing up for themselves! The police do themselves no favours and merit no respect from the citizenry when they pull idiot stunts like the one they did on Mr. Chen.

Mr Chen stated, in the article above, that he is now AFRAID to go after any future shoplifters, for fear that it will violate...get this....his bail conditions! HIS bail condtions!

Congratulations Cops.

You will be pleased to know that the message you have sent is this:

"All shoplifters are now free to steal from Mr Chen's store. We will charge him again if he tries to stop you. We have seen to it that another Canadian citizen will be punished for defending his lawful property".

You Gestapo Idiots.

When I hear or read about travesties like this happening, it makes me think about the idiot, hair-brained liberal philosophy that states: "the more helpless you are, the safer you are from criminals". Hmmm. I wonder just how safe Mr. Chen feels now?

No wonder that honest, hardworking, law abiding citizens have no faith in the police. The police and other law enforcement agencies have basically told us to let the scumbag criminals run roughshod over us and there is nothing we can do about it.

WANNA BET?

Not on MY watch

Good Letter!

I received this email from a friend of mine in Ontario. It pretty much outlines MY beliefs on immigration. Now, let me make this perfectly clear. I am not against immigration. I AM against ILLEGAL immigration. I AM against criminals, drug pedlars and foreign terrorists using MY country has a haven to commit crimes, bring thier wars to MY streets and neighbourhoods and endangering MY family and friends.

And now...The letter:

A Letter to the Editor (excellent letter)

So many letter writers have explained how this land is made up of immigrants. Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people why today's Canadian is not willing to accept the new kind of immigrant any longer.

Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to Canada, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in Halifax and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new Canadian households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labour laws to protect them. All they had were the skills, craftsmanship and desire they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. Canadians fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Czechoslovakia, Russia,Sweden,Poland and so many other places. None of these first generation Canadians ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Canadians fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the Freedom as one people. When we liberated France, no-one in those villages was looking for the Ukrainian-Canadian or the German-Canadian or the Irish-Canadian. The people of France saw only Canadians.

And we carried one flag that represented our country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be a Canadian. They stirred the melting pot into one red and white bowl.

And here we are in 2009 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes a Canadian passport and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being a Canadian is all about. Canadians have been very open-hearted and open-minded regarding immigrants, whether they were fleeing poverty, dictatorship, persecution, or whatever else makes us thinkofthose aforementioned immigrants who truly did ADOPT our country, and our flag and our morals and our customs.. And left their wars, hatred, and divisions behind. I believe that the immigrants who landed in Canada in the early 1900s deserve better than that for the toil, hard work and sacrifice those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags, fighting foreign battles on our soil, making Canadians change to suit their religions and cultures, and wanting to change our countries fabric by claiming discrimination when we do not give in to their demands.

Its about time we get real and stand up for our forefathers rights, we are CANADIAN Lest we forget it!!! I am a Native of this Country & proud of it!

NO MORE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS
NO MORE not saying CHRISTMAS in stores and our schools!
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!
